Making Your Own Picture Frames

AMAZING NEW SYSTEM BUILDS YOUR BUSINESS ON AUTOPILOT

If you love photography, but hate the prices of picture frames, you should consider making your own. You can really save some money by getting the correct marterials, and making them isn't that hard.

Molding from the store can make for great frames, if you learn how to do it correctly. First you will need to measure the picture you wish to make a frame for. Chair rail can be quite decorative when made into a frame. Once you have selected a board, you need to take a router to cut a notch along the entire length of the board. This will be the notch the glass lays into when the frame is completed.

Once you have that complete you will need to cut a 45 degree angle from both ends with a miter box and saw. This will give your frames that great mitered look on the edges. Once you have this completed you should mock up the frame with the picture to make sure it is the correct size. If adjustments need to be made, now is the time to deal with those not after the frame is all put together.

Once you have the frame to the size you want, then you should put some wood glue on the edges and put it in a picture frame miter clamp. This will hold the frame together while the glue dries. You will also want to stabalize the joints by using a small set of finishing nails.

Next you will want to measure the dimensions of the area you notched out for your glass. This will give you the measurements for the glass your need to cut. Believe it or not, cutting glass is very easy, you just need a glasscutting tool. ONce this is done, simply place the glass into your frame. Then cut a piece of cardboard, the same size as the glass and place it over the picture to make a sandwhich between the glass and cardboard. Last of all you will want to put the nails around the inside edges to keep the picture in place.
